To promote national cohesion and integration, the cohesion agenda, the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) in partnership with the Inter Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK), the National Commission for Integration and Cohesion (NCIC), the Department of Cohesion and the National Steering Committee (NSC) on Peace Building and Conflict Management is implementing the Pamoja Initiative. The goal of this Initiative is to strengthen frameworks for peace and reconciliation between key ethnic groups in Kenya. This is being attained through creation of safe spaces for open dialogue and consensus building amongst ethnic communities.
Under this initiative, the leaders of ethnic groups are facilitated to interact within a safe space as communities among themselves. Thereafter, they are facilitated to meet and interact with the leaders of other ethnic groups that they had conflicts with in the past. The interactions are comprehensive and frank, leading to mutual understanding, trust, and resilient social ties – a critical element of cohesive societies –between the communities
